A legal dispute involving popular educator Khan Sir and TV Today Network has escalated to the Delhi High Court, with the media company and senior journalist Anjana Om Kashyap filing a ₹2 crore civil defamation suit against the educator and several others.
The case stems from a public controversy that emerged following a televised debate on the growing influence of online educators and the commercialisation of the education sector. According to court filings, the plaintiffs allege that remarks made by Khan Sir and content circulated across digital platforms damaged their reputation and subjected them to public hostility.
TV Today Network and Kashyap have sought the removal of the allegedly defamatory content and requested legal directions to prevent further publication of similar material. The suit also seeks ₹2 crore in damages for alleged reputational harm.
The controversy reportedly began after Kashyap hosted a discussion on Aaj Tak regarding “star teachers” and the growing business of online coaching. The plaintiffs maintain that the comments made during the programme were part of a broader journalistic discussion on an issue of public importance and were not directed at any specific individual.
Court documents further claim that a coordinated online campaign followed the broadcast, leading to the circulation of critical videos, social media posts, and commentary targeting both the journalist and the network. The suit also raises concerns about privacy, alleging that personal information relating to Kashyap’s family was disclosed during the controversy.
The matter is expected to test the boundaries between freedom of expression, public criticism, and defamation in the digital age as proceedings continue before the Delhi High Court.
