WhatsApp is expanding its Events feature with new tools that make organising meetups easier, including the ability to invite people who do not have an account on the platform. Users can create an event, add a cover photo and share an invitation link with friends and family. Recipients without WhatsApp can view event details and RSVP without downloading the app.
Alongside this, the company is introducing Events Home, a central space to create customised invitations and manage responses. Users can reach it through Settings by selecting Events, where a consolidated list shows past and upcoming events, both those they have created and those they have been invited to. Organisers can also send customised reminders and allow guests to bring a plus one.
WhatsApp says privacy was central to the design. A user’s phone number will not be visible to guests they do not know, and for people without an account, the event address appears only after they RSVP. The company also reiterated that personal messages and calls remain private and protected by end-to-end encryption.
The move builds on WhatsApp’s efforts to make the platform more useful beyond individual and group chats, adding tools for coordinating in-person interactions and real-world meetups. It is particularly relevant when organisers want to bring together people across different messaging platforms. The updated Events experience is being rolled out to all users over the coming weeks.
