Horlicks has stepped into the protein powder category with a new launch containing 24g of fermented yeast protein and 4g of prebiotic fibre per serving. Available in Chocolate, Coffee and Unflavored variants, the product comes packed as 28 single-serve sachets in a 1 kg pack, sold through retail and select online platforms across India.
Rajneet Kohli, Executive Director, Foods, Hindustan Unilever, said Horlicks carries over a century of nutrition-led legacy, and protein marks a natural evolution for the brand. He noted that consumer conversations revealed a key insight – “life is a gym,” whether it’s a hectic workday, a long commute, or simply keeping up with daily demands. This shaped the brand’s larger thought, “Your Day Is the Real Workout,” with the ambition of making quality protein easier to incorporate into everyday Indian lifestyles.
The product uses fermented yeast protein, offering all nine essential amino acids, and achieves a PDCAAS score of 1.0 – a recognised benchmark for protein quality and digestibility. It also includes inulin, a prebiotic fibre, and papain, a plant-derived digestive enzyme, while remaining naturally lactose-free.
Sujatha Jayaraman, VP & Head, Foods R&D and Regulatory Affairs, HUL, said the conversation around protein must shift from quantity to quality and completeness. She added that this thinking shaped the science behind the formulation – combining complete, high-quality protein with ingredients that support digestion and gut health, positioning Horlicks Protein Powder as a scientifically grounded entry into the category.
