iPhone Price Hikes: Apple Turns to Cashback, Trade-Ins and EMIs in India

Apple is leaning on cashback, trade-in benefits and interest-free EMIs to soften the impact of sharp iPhone price increases in India, as the company continues to push further into the premium smartphone segment.

Customers purchasing the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max or iPhone Duo can avail cashback of up to ₹7,000, while the iPhone 17 offers up to ₹5,000. The iPhone Air gets up to ₹4,000, while the iPhone 17e and iPhone 16 offer ₹3,000.

Exchange benefits can reduce the effective cost further, with discounts of up to ₹10,000 available on select new models, depending on the value of the device traded in.

Apple is also stretching repayment periods. Eligible iPhone 17 buyers can opt for 18 or 24 month interest-free EMIs, while its “iPhone for Life” plan allows customers to pay 75% over 24 months and the remaining 25% after two years.

The financing push comes after significant price increases. The iPhone 17 now starts at ₹99,900, while the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max and first foldable iPhone Duo start at ₹1,64,900, ₹1,79,900 and ₹2,99,900 respectively.

Rather than discounting its headline prices, Apple appears to be changing the upgrade equation – shifting consumer focus from sticker price to monthly affordability through financing, cashback and trade-ins.

With the festive season approaching, the strategy could prove crucial in sustaining demand while protecting Apple’s premium positioning.
