Mondelez India Foods, maker of Bournvita and Cadbury products, has withdrawn health and nutrient-comparison claims after being flagged by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The company has also removed related advertisements from e-commerce platforms, according to a report by The Hindu.
The move is part of FSSAI’s wider crackdown on misleading advertisements, unsubstantiated claims and labelling violations, with over 150 notices issued to food companies including Nestlé India, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola India, Abbott India, Red Bull India, Danone India, Monster Energy India, Ferrero India and Kenvue.
Bournvita had previously faced scrutiny in 2023 over its sugar content and marketing to children.
The enforcement wave has affected other brands too. Amway India dropped “100%” from its “100% Pure Coconut Oil” packaging and removed the “Energy Drink” descriptor from its XS range. Kerala-based Juza Foods agreed to withdraw claims like “boost immunity” and “support stronger bones” from its baby-food products.
This follows a May 2025 FSSAI advisory discouraging the use of “100%” on labels, citing implied absolute purity. FSSAI has also issued 12 notices to e-commerce firms and over 30 to food-service establishments, with sustained compliance remaining the regulator’s ongoing challenge.
